( Look at that! Alex is giving him a call around noonish the week before their next mission is meant to start. Heading to an Earth? For her, a recent history Earth. Sounds fascinating.

[ He's not expecting a call, but he sounds excited enough to answer. There's also a bit of wind in the background so he's probably in the air. ]

( Excited and windblown, meet enthused and generally cheerful. )


Hawks! It's Alex. Are you hungry?

( A pause. )

Sounds like you're on the wing at the moment.

[ He laughs lightly, there's a small thud as he lands on some rooftop. ]

Yeah, but I usually am. [ On both counts. ]

I could eat!

Great! I found what I was needing between the diner and the two convenience stores in the city, so I just finished a few batches of those braised chicken wings I mentioned before. It's not as hot today — what do you say to a picnic out on the beach away from the park?

( Not being cooped up for longer in her apartment after all this cooking is her Goal, and she figures he's not strictly the sort who thinks eating needs to be Indoors, but you never know. )

Chicken wings! You just made my day. [ Don't mind him, he's very food motivated. He also eats most of his meals outside in flight anyway, so he's definitely not facny. ]

That sounds good, what time do you want me there?

How does fifteen minutes sound? You'll catch me on a fly-by I'm sure, so I don't think we need to worry about the specifics of location.

( She's ready to go, but fifteen minutes gives her time to make the walk and to also make use of the giant sunhat she found in the process of scouring for ingredients in the city. )

Sounds good to me. See you then! [ He's not exactly near the beach, but that's not a problem. He's not far enough away for it to be an issue.

Although he's chronically late at home for anything he has to do, there are wings involved, he's definitely going to hustle. Alex will be able to see him coming in the air if she's looking up, likely at a ridiculous speed. ]

( She's down there with a towel already spread out, holding her oversized hat on her head with how far back she's tilting to see the skies and wave to the blur of reddish she's assuming is him. Too small for the dragon! Likely that's Hawks. He moves fast. Alex idly wonders how often he breaks the sound barrier. )

Hawks! Down here!

( She's also got a few different thermos, one filled with warm water, one that's tea, and one that's coffee. She is Picnicking, even if the food all ended up being braised chicken wings and then watermelon for herself. )

Hawks! Remember how I said I'd ask Aurora about showers that can handle your wings before the last mission? I finally did, and she says there's both a school out in Charronway where some boy is living with a wingspan like yours, and the showers there can work. There's apartments in our building with refitted showers that'd work too, and she'll have a companion bot come by and show you to one!

You did, although you didn't have to and that's great news. I'll look for the companion bot. I don't think I want to live out by a school so I'll probably pick an apartment. Schools seem kinda weird to me since I've never been to one.

Thanks, I totally owe you at least three favours.

Schools can be kind of fun! Though they're better when you're younger, if they're not university campuses. Those are great at any age.

Make sure to send me your apartment number once you've decided! I'll make you a little gift-basket of meats. And you don't have to worry about favours, you're my friend! This is what friends do for each other.

Though I totally won't object if you want to haul me along for flying sometime. Flying never gets old.

Yeah, probably, I don't know if I would've liked school or not. Can't do much about that now.

Sure, will do. I appreciate your friendship, I just feel bad I don't have anything for you. [ Nor does he know what he would do. ]

Oh, that's definitely something I can accommodate. I'd love to take you flying.

Unless we get sent on a school mission. If we do, I'll give you a run-down of the ins and outs of college campus life!

All a friend ever needs to be is a friend. That's pretty powerful on its own, right? Being there.

Hah! That'll be great! It's not something we did a lot of back home because I basically have to resonate for someone the whole time, which I can do, but it's less smooth than actually having flight as your gift.

Yeah, I'd be lost if there was something unique to being in a school that I'd have to know.

You just have to not mind being held by me and I can take you anywhere. At a reasonable speed, I don't have any extra protective gear.

I wonder if we could find any protective gear around? You never know what some of these stores are hiding. Which makes no sense since it has to be Aurora restocking them somehow, but the stuff does change!

And I'm fine being held! Pretty much the only way to go when people have talents that let them move fast or defy gravity. Weirdly used to it by now. Have you ever had someone teleport you? Wild stuff.

Admittedly I haven't, but I've seen people do some kind of teleporting travel and it did not look comfortable.

As for protective gear, there might be. Earplugs and safety goggles are best if you want to try out speed, but for a little ride, they're not necessary. I won't go that high or that fast.

I'm not sure what to think about it yet. I'm not sure what she means by extraordinary abilities. Either way, I have no intention of backing down.

I take it as anything not normal human baseline. Do your feathers hang out on their own, or do you actively have to keep them in place?

[velocityraptor]

Yeah for me that could still mean a lot of things and I didn't say that, I'll deny it.

My wings are my quirk. If I don't have access to my quirk, I would expect my wings will not be there. Might be grounded. That's annoying, I'm slower on foot.

I heard nothing friend, and I hate to say it, but you may be grounded. Even if your wings are here, they might not be able to act the way they're supposed to.

We're kind of all slower on foot, bound to what, 38 kph? I'm more worried your diet might get messed up too.

That's fine, I've done more than enough training to handle myself if I don't have feathers left, although that's not ideal.

It could, maybe, but I don't think I'm eating anything harmful to people in general. If it becomes a problem, I'll manage.

Yeah, having our bodily autonomy taken away is never ideal. Anything I can do to help out before we're space radiated?

Yeah, since you cook most everything. And if it's just two weeks that shouldn't be long enough that you'd have any weird deficiencies come up? I don't know, I'm just worried about my friends.

Not that I can think of, I just have to brace myself. I don't think it will be that much of a problem.

I cook everything I eat. I'd have to be real desperate to break that convention. And no, it shouldn't, I'm completely healthy as a baseline. I appreciate your worry. Is there something you're worried about, that I can help with?
